Infant Baptism

Catholic parents wishing to have a child baptized are required to attend baptismal preparation sessions prior to their celebration of the sacrament. Non-Catholic parents are encouraged to participate in these sessions with their Catholic spouse. Baptisms are scheduled monthly, either at a Sunday parish Mass (second Sunday of the month) or outside of Mass on Sunday afternoon (third Sunday of the month) . The schedule for Baptisms and for the preparation sessions are announced periodically in the bulletin.  For more information contact the parish office at 515-233-3092.

Youth Baptism

Children and youth over the age of seven prepare to celebrate the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and Eucharist in a process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults with Adaptations for Children.  See Faith Formation – Adults – Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Adult Baptism

Adults who have never been baptized may prepare for Christian Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Christians Baptized in other Christian denominations are generally recognized to have a valid Baptism (depending on the form), and may prepare for a Profession of Faith, Confirmation, and Eucharist. All this will be discussed in the initial interview.

See Becoming Catholic. Those interested in learning more about Jesus and the Catholic faith and becoming a Catholic Christian are encouraged to contact Jarrett Wendt or 515-233-3092.

First Reconciliation
Children in the second grade are invited to celebrate first Reconciliation in the fall of that year. While parents are the prime educators of their children in the faith, they are assisted in their child’s preparation for their first Reconciliation by parish formation programs. First Reconciliation Learning Centers are the first step in the preparation process for families which will be taking place September 25 and 27, 2017. If you are interested in signing up your child for First Reconciliation, please do so here.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered individually as scheduled in the bulletin, as well as by request.  Communal celebrations occur periodically and are announced in the bulletin.

First Eucharist

Children in the second grade are invited to celebrate First Eucharist in the spring of that year. While parents are the prime educators of their children in the faith, they are assisted in their child’s preparation for their First Eucharist by parish formation programs. Parents work through materials at home as well as the First Eucharist Learning Centers which take place in April. If you are interested in signing up your child for First Eucharist, please do so here or call 515-232-3514.

High School Confirmation

Confirmation for high school aged students typically takes place during sophomore year. There are eight classes over a period of two years, beginning in ninth grade which can also be completed through the home study option.

In addition to the four annual sessions, Confirmation candidates also attend the Journey Retreat in February.  Finally, candidates in the second year of preparation are recognized by the parish during two formal Rites at our regular weekend liturgies: the Rite of Entrance and the Rite of Covenant.  The Final Rite of Confirmation is celebrated during the Easter season each Spring for sophomore candidates who have finished their preparation.

Please visit the High School page for more information on Confirmation.

Adult Confirmation

Preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation involves a journey to deepen and strengthen your Catholic faith alongside those who are Becoming Catholic. Pray, Live, Study – these three words will guide you into a more intimate relationship with Jesus in the heart of the Catholic Church. Each journey will be highly personalized and can begin as early as tomorrow!

Adult Catholics who have never been Confirmed are encouraged to contact Jarrett Wendt or 515-233-3092.

The Sacrament of Marriage can be celebrated at a time convenient to the  couple and in accordance with the parish schedule. The date and time of the celebration must be scheduled only with a priest or deacon of the parish. The St. Cecilia Wedding Guidelines 2017, which is available from the Parish Office and on our website, contains additional information and guidelines. Also, please see the Wedding Music Guidelines and Wedding Music Outline for guidance and assistance in choosing your wedding music.
