PRINCIPAL NOTES – September 21, 2018

2018 Read-A-Thon School Fundraiser!

Dear Saint Cecilia Families,

This year the FSA school fundraiser will be a Read-A-Thon. We hope the Read-A-Thon will be our main fundraiser, replacing the need for brochure sales. The best part of the Read-A-Thon is that 100% of the money collected will be used at our school for our children and teachers.

The Read-A-Thon will be the main Saint Cecilia School FSA fundraiser for 2018-2019 school year. If we reach our goal of $12,000, a second fundraiser will not be needed. Students will set a reading goal, gather sponsors to pledge money, read from Friday, September 28th to Wednesday, October 10th, and turn in money and reading logs by Monday, October 15th (Money and reading logs can be turned in using the hot pink envelope provided with this packet). Please check out the packet for additional details, prizes, online donation option and forms.

All students are strongly encouraged to participate in order to make this a fun and profitable fundraiser for our school. Please look for your student’s packet on September 21st and get them excited to READ! Please address any questions you may have after reading the packet to either Betsy Pyfferoen, or Sara Leto,, parent volunteer Read-A-Thon coordinators.

5th Grade Reception after October 3rd Mass

Students may wear their athletic gear or favorite team shirts for a suggested donation of $1. All proceeds will be donated to the Ames Animal Shelter.

Teacher In-Service – October 8th
We will not hold classes on Monday, October 8th due to a teacher in-service day.

If you are unsure if you have paid or have any questions, you can contact Sara Leto at

St. Cecilia Gala 2019
Save the Date for the 2019 St. Cecilia Gala on February 9, 2019.

Did you know? The Saint Cecilia Gala, which began in 2006, was designed to create an educational endowment fund of which 100% of the proceeds were used to support the educational programs of Saint Cecilia Church and School. Part of funds raised are used for immediate needs.

The 2018 Gala raised a total of $133,700. Included in that total was $35,225 raised for Fund-A-Need which this year went to prayer books for the church and NEW BATHROOMS! Check out the new bathrooms or ask your kids about them! They are amazing!! Thanks for everyone who contributed in any way (time, talent, prayers, or monetary) to the 2018 Gala and made this possible.

We need your help!

Gathering donations for the event is a big job!! Sign-up to help:

Every year each class, preschool through 4th grade, has an amazing art project in the Silent Auction portion of the Gala. The 5th grade class art projects are part of the Live Auction!! To make these projects possible, we need parent volunteers to help coordinate and create and we need class sponsors to donate $75 to help with the cost of the projects. If you are interested in helping with this, see the sign-up link below.!/showSignUp/10c044fafa82fa46-stcecilia
