PRINCIPAL NOTES – November 30, 2018

Nation Day of Prayer
Today is the National day of Prayer for Inclusion of People/Students with Disabilities and the Families Who Love Them. During our morning announcements this morning Mrs. Rooney read the following prayer to the our students and wanted to share it with our St. Cecilia School Families as well.

Living and True God,
You created all that is good and holy in your image, be close to us, your servants, who gather here today. Be our constant help and protection as we lovingly reach out to welcome and embrace all your children, regardless of their abilities, in our parishes and schools. Bless our children as they grow together in faith, knowledge and friendship and bless their parents and educators who guide them through challenges, who celebrate their special gifts and who encourage them to reach their potential. We ask this through Jesus Christ, your son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the holy spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Nonpublic Transportation Services
Parents that live outside the Ames School District are reminded to turn in your transportation reimbursement request. The reimbursement comes from the resident district and is flow thru dollars from the state of Iowa so by requesting the funds you are not taking any dollars from the local district, they are reimbursed for the amount they pay you.

Notice to nonpublic parents regarding public school district transportation services: Iowa Code Section 285.1 requires public school districts to provide transportation services to resident nonpublic students that are entitled as per that section. How the transportation service will be provided is to be determined by the public school district. When funds are appropriated by the Iowa General Assembly and if your public school district has selected “Parent Reimbursement” as their transportation service type of choice and you meet the transportation entitlement policy provisions of the public school district in which you live and the nonpublic school being attended has been accredited by the Iowa Department of Education, you are entitled to parent reimbursement as per Iowa Code Sections 285.1, subparagraph 3 and 285.3.

(Iowa Code, Section 285.3) If your public school district selects the “Parent Reimbursement” option, it is your responsibility as the nonpublic parent or guardian to notify your resident public school district that you have children attending an accredited nonpublic school and its location. In addition, specific information, as requested on this form, must be submitted by the nonpublic parent or guardian no later than December 1st (for first semester reimbursement) and May 1st (for second semester reimbursement), each year and sent to the school district where they reside. Failure to submit this request by the above deadline each semester will result in the denial of the reimbursement request for the claim period.

Please print off the appropriate form, complete it and mail it to the address toward the bottom of the form by December 1st for 1st semester and May 1st for 2nd semester.

“The students have been great about being compliant with dress code the past few weeks! One reminder would be to make sure uniform bottoms are dress bottoms. The fabric can be knit or khaki, but styles such as sweatpants, yoga pants and running tights are prohibited. If you have any questions, please see me. Thank you!”

Reminder: If your child’s after school transportation changes, please call or email the school as soon as you are able. Unless notified by you we will go by the information you previously provided. We love your children and for their safety we need to follow the information provided by the parents.

Donation for Beautification
We want to provide a warm and welcoming environment for your children where they feel at home away from home. We want the aesthetic of our school to transmit the faithful, loving, enthusiastic and joyful culture that we provide at St. Cecilia.
We would like to add one accent wall to each classroom to bring more warmth, color and personality to each space. Three classrooms have been painted, we would love your help to continue this process into the remaining classrooms. We are seeking donations of $35 to per can and anticipate needing 27 additional cans to complete this project. If you’d like to donate, please complete this sign up genius link and thank you in advance for your generosity:

2019 Talent Show
Calling all talented kids!  Each year during Catholic Schools Week, we showcase our talented K-5 students during a fun-filled show.  Kids can play a musical instrument, dance, sing or perform any other talent that will be entertaining at this family event.   The 2019 talent show will be held on Sunday January 27th.  Students should start planning NOW!  If your child is planning to participate this year, sign ups for the talent show must be completed before Christmas break. Please note that preview auditions will take place starting January 7th, but students must get signed up on Sign Up Genius for a time slot now.  This is a change from past years so that we can better plan and practice for the performance.  The deadline for signing up for the talent show is December 20th on Sign Up Genius.  We will not accept late entrants, so plan ahead.  This will give participants a longer time to plan and practice and the organizing committee more time to put the program together.  Should you have any questions, please contact one of the talent show committee members below.  We look forward to another great time to showcase the many talented students at St. Cecilia!
