PRINCIPAL NOTES – March 1, 2019

Parent-Teacher Conferences
It’s almost time for Spring conferences in March. Please review and sign up for your conference slots at:
Please make this a priority, so you can get a slot that works with your schedule. Conferences are an opportunity for two-way communication. They’re not merely a meeting for teachers to give parents information on classroom performance, but a chance for parents to share information with the teachers to help the students gain the most from their class experience. Conferences are also a place for parents to tell teachers things about their child: How he likes to learn. What they say about the class at home. How they enjoy spending free time. After a good conference, both the parent and teacher know more about how things could be better. We look forward to the evening and hopefully the night will be a success for the parents and teachers. Note that the conferences are only 15 minutes long, so please be prompt and on time. Thank you.

Spirit Day March 7, 2019
We will be having a Spirit Day on Thursday, March 7 with donations going to our Fund-A-Need. For a suggested donation of a $1 or more, students may wear pajamas. Donations will go towards our Fund-A-Need this year which is beautification of the school. This includes a proposed mural in the gym, painting of classrooms and new water fountains. Thank you for your support.

Contact Hours
As we enter March and hopefully some warmer weather, we wanted to offer an update on how the winter weather will impact the remainder of the school year. State law requires that we have 1,080 contact hours with students. With our late starts and cancellation days, we are still within that range. As of today, we will not be asking students to make up cancelled days due to snow, nor will we have to adjust any scheduling at this time to ensure we reach those hours. The last day for students continues to be May 31, 2019.

What is CRS Rice Bowl
CRS Rice Bowl is Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten faith-in-action program for families and faith communities. Through CRS Rice Bowl, we deepen our personal experience of Lent, and hear stories from our brothers and sisters in need worldwide. For more information, view
We are asking students to bring their Rice Bowls back on Good Friday. Thank you.

Book Fair Help:

Book Fair
Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:

-Set the example. Let children see you read.
-Have a collection of books in the home. Update this collection routinely to keep pace with changing tastes and reading skills.
-Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings to school the books kids want to read. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.

Our Book Fair dates: March 12th and 13th
**There is no school on Thursday, therefore, there will be no bookfair on Thursday March 14th**

Also, check out our on-line bookfair at:

We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair!
Remember, all purchases benefit our school.

Welcome a New Baby
Tracy, Neal, Brooke (preschool) and Ria Molitor welcomed a new baby girl, Saige, last week! Please consider signing up to bring a meal to this sweet St. Cecilia family.

Help us promote healthy exercise by being a part of Mileage Club! The program begins Monday, March 25th (week following spring break) and we need you to make it successful.

The eight-week program is sponsored by Mary Greeley Medical Center, and encourages kids to become more physically active and healthy by walking and running at recess. Students earn toe tokens for every 5 miles of walking or running, and a grand prize at 25 miles! Mileage Club takes place during lunch recesses, Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. We are looking for parent volunteers to help scan QR codes with iPads. It’s a very simple task and a lot of fun to be part of the excitement! Grades 3-5 have recess at 11:40-12:00 and K-2 from 12:00-12:20. We will begin on Monday, March 25th.
Please volunteer by going to the sign-up genius link below. Whether you help every week during the 8-week program, or only once, your time is greatly appreciated! Learn more about the program by going to the link:

Questions: contact Lisa Weary @ 480-4936 or

REMEMBER: Parents and grandparents are invited to join their child(ren) for walking or running at any time (younger siblings also welcome!). If you have never experienced Mileage Club, we encourage you to stop in and observe. Thank you for supporting this great opportunity for the students.

Scrip Tidbits!
Did you know that every penny you purchase through the St. Cecilia Scrip program adds up to be a substantial benefit to your school? If each family at St. Cecilia bought even SOME ($200/month) of their groceries with Scrip, the school would benefit approximately $50 per year per family. Alone, this doesn’t seem like a lot, BUT…
If EVERY family bought all of their groceries with Scrip, the school would benefit over $8,000!! Together, we really can do great things to help our school.
If you have any questions about Scrip, please contact Bev Williams or Melissa Hall at
