“He is risen just as he said!”

These are the words of the angel to the women who came to the tomb and discovered Jesus was not there. (Mt 28:6)

The whole sentence is truly profound.

God is not dead! He is alive!

But not only that.

He is faithful!

“… just as he said!”

Our Lord became incarnate and died on the cross to undo our sin, sin that began in the garden.

“Did God really say ‘You shall not eat of any tree of the garden’?” (Gen. 3:1)

Satan placed doubt in the minds of Adam and Eve, doubt about whether God is a loving and faithful God, and thus began the slippery slope of the first disobedience.

So the angel’s “Good News” is not just that Jesus is risen but that he has risen “just as he said”.

In other words, have no fear!

Doubt no more.

Your God is a good and loving God who can be trusted.

Our call today is to rejoice in the truth of the resurrection but also to respond to God’s faithfulness with equal faithfulness.

We do that most concretely by a daily commitment to prayer.

As Mother Teresa famously said, “God has not called me to be successful, he has called me to be faithful.”

The Easter season is a celebration of the faithfulness of God.

I urge you to rejoice in the gift of the resurrection by the gift of yourself in prayer.

If your Lenten resolution was to pray daily for 15 or 30 minutes, don’t stop!

Even if you’re not feeling very successful at it.

God does not want our success.

He wants our faithfulness.

Hallelujah! He is risen… just as he said!
