Saint Cecilia School website
Saint Cecilia School offers residents of the Ames area an opportunity
for Catholic education. Students from preschool through grade
five are given the opportunity to study, pray, and play in an
atmosphere that nurtures Christian love and acceptance.
Faculty, staff, parents, and parishioners unite to provide students
with an excellent academic background that promotes each student's
positive self image and develops each student's intellectual and social
potential.
All programs at the school are enhanced by parent, parish, and
community volunteers. These friends of the school contribute
greatly to the total program.
Sharing faith and growing in the love of Jesus Christ and of one
another are essential activities at Saint Cecilia School.
Students prepare and participate in liturgies and join in prayerful
classroom experiences. In addition to studying the Bible and
celebrating special days of the liturgical calendar, students take on
special projects, such as visiting residents in nursing homes and
collecting food, toys, and clothing for special occasions and community
needs. All students receive religious instruction in Catholic
faith and values.
Academic achievement is extremely important at Saint Cecilia
School. Current textbooks, reference books, computers, and
audio-visual equipment are used. Specialized teachers in art,
music, physical education, guidance, computers, and library skills
strengthen the curriculum.
Because great value is placed on the development of each student in all
areas--intellectual, spiritual, social, and emotional--a guidance
program helps students to understand themselves and others and to
practice skills in listening, communication, and nonviolent conflict
resolution. Each child has a chance to grow in the gifts and
talents that God has provided.
Parish policy states that no child wishing admittance will be turned
away for financial reasons. Students from families registered as
members of Saint Cecilia Parish are given priority admittance. If
space allows, other area Catholic or non-Catholic students are
welcomed. Buses transport students to and from school.
Saint Cecilia School's faculty, staff, and students invite all to come
and visit.
Family School Association
The Family School Association consists of parents, teachers, and
friends of Saint Cecilia School who work together to promote family
life in the school through educational, social, and fund-raising
activities. Monthly meetings are held at the Education
Center. All members are invited to attend, and suggestions
are always appreciated. Dues from each Saint Cecilia School
family help provide resources to sponsor activities during the school
year.
School Expansion Exploration Committee
The Saint Cecilia community has studied and then begun expansion
of Saint Cecilia School from a single-section K-5 school to one that
currently includes morning and afternoon preschool sections and two
kindergarten sections. The Parish Council has authorized addition
of an additional K section for the 2007-2008 school year and an
additional section in each succeeding year if enrollment demand is
sufficient. The following links, listed in reverse
chronological order, connect to the minutes of the School Expansion
Exploration Committee and other documents pertinent to the School
Expansion matter.
